Application password

Due to the increasing number of cyber attacks on our Users' e-mail accounts, we have implemented a new account protection function called "Application passwords".

We recommend that each User generates separate passwords for the e-mail clients and applications they use, e.g. Thunderbird, Outlook and mobile mailing apps. This password can be saved in the respective application and does not need to be remembered and entered each time.

The application password cannot be used to log in to the AGH e-mail account via a web browser at https://poczta.agh.edu.pl/ - you can log into your account via a web browser only with your main password.

Attention

Generating your first application password will permanently block the ability to log into a mailing app with your main AGH e-mail account password. In case your application password "leaks", the employees of the Independent Section for Cybersecurity Monitoring will be able to find the cause and the potentially infected device more accurately.

Generating an application password

  1. Log into your AGH e-mail account via a web browser. Click the "Settings" button located in the top right corner and choose "Application passwords" from the horizontal menu.
  1. Enter your current (main) password and a name, then click the "Generate application password" button.
In order to identify which applications you are logged into with your e-mail account, in the "Name" field enter an easily recognisable name, such as "Work phone", "Outlook - home computer", "Thunderbird - work", etc.
  1. A password will be displayed. Use it to log into a mailing client (you can enable the option to save your password within the app). The password is displayed only once for security reasons.

Application password change

  1. Log into your AGH e-mail account via a web browser. Click the "Settings" button located in the top right corner and choose "Application passwords" from the horizontal menu.
  1. From the list of "Existing passwords" choose the one you want to change and click the "Delete" button next to it.
  1. Generate a new application password following the instruction above.
