You can change the automatically generated UNIX account password to your own after logging in to your account while working within the Linux shell. To change the password, you need to enter your current password, and then the password you wish to change it to twice.
The password change process presented below takes place after connecting to the student.agh.edu.pl server via PuTTY. The process will look similarly in any other SSH client. If you have never connected remotely to a server before and you'd like to use PuTTY for it, you can read our short user guide: PuTTY user guide.
To change your student.agh.edu.pl or galaxy.agh.edu.pl server password:
After successfully logging in, enter the "Passwd" command into the console.
The server will prompt you to enter your password: "Enter login password:" - enter your current password and hit "Enter".
A new prompt will appear: "New password:" - enter your new password (at least 8 characters long, must include a digit or a special character) and press "Enter".
"Re-enter new password:" - re-enter your new password, press "Enter".
Your password has been changed. From now on, you need to use the new password to connect to the server.
If you forgot your UNIX account password, you can reset it by yourself through the AGH Panel.
Log in to the AGH Panel and open the "UNIX" tab. Click the "Reset password" button next to the account you'd like to reset your password to.
Confirm your choice by pressing the "OK" button.
Check your AGH mailbox - you should receive a message with your UNIX account log-in details.
To view your password, open the link included in the message in a new tab and press the "Pokaż" ("Show") button.
