MATLAB

About the software

Available to: employees, doctoral students, students, computer laboratories

How to obtain: registration on the manufacturer's website

Support (license codes, problems with instalation): matlab@agh.edu.pl

Support in other matters: matlab@agh.edu.pl

A computing environment designed for engineers and scientists to perform mathematical calculations, numerical analysis, visualisation of the obtained results (2D, 3D), as well as development of algorithms and programs. MATLAB's language is intuitive and convenient to use, making the development of algorithms simpler than programming languages such as C or Fortran.

Terms of using the Matlab license in accordance with the MathWorks Total Academic Headcount (TAH)

Matlab licenses within the TAH model allow for the simultaneous use of the software and all of its toolboxes by an unlimited number of students and employees.

To install the software (individual and classroom licenses) you need to be connected to the AGH network.
To use the classroom license, all the computers with Mathworks products installed on them must have permanent AGH network access.
Once activated, the individual license does not require network access.

Additional conditions for the classroom license:

  1. IP address: the classroom license server may block access from unregistered devices. To be able to use this license, please send a message to matlab@agh.edu.pl, specifying the IP address of the device Matlab will be installed on; alternatively, you may also specify the NAT server address, if the computer does not have an external IP address.

  2. The classroom license requires that the computer is a part of the AGH network.
The license is supported by a license server, which authenticates the user. The classroom license server:
    *matlab2.cri.agh.edu.pl   [149.156.98.112]

  3. Error 39: since the 2015b version, the approach has changed and a non-routable IP address is often transmitted. That change can prevent the application from being used in the local network.
The solution to this problem can be found on the manufacturer's website: MatlabAnswers.
The solution comes down to creating an environmental variable in the system (system variable, not user variable within the Windows environment) named FNP_IP_ENV with value: 1.
    FNP_IP_ENV=1

Definitions

The individual license is intended for employees and students for the purposes of student, scientific and research work. This work cannot be commercial and must be carried out within the AGH University.

Individual license software:

  • can be installed and used by employees and students on their private computers,
  • cannot be installed and used in computer laboratories.

According to the license terms and conditions, one user can activate the license up to 4 times.

The classroom license is intended for use in computer laboratories for the purpose of teaching. It cannot be used outside of AGH computer laboratories. While installed in the AGH computer laboratories, Matlab can only be used during regular teaching classes, not for scientific research projects.

An AGH employee, in terms of the license agreement, is a person employed under an employment contract, or any other form of contract (comission/specific-task contract) commissioned and paid for directly by the AGH Univeristy of Krakow. Additionally, the use of Matlab must strictly relate to the conduct of work under these contracts. The scope of the contract must be either teaching or conducting scientific research work. The potential "product" (research results, calculation, analysis) of Matlab use cannot be sold or given away to third parties under no circumstances. Any work carried out for third parties is a violation of the license agreement.

AGH student, in terms of the license agreement, is a person (student, participant of non-degree postgraduate programme) pursuing higher education at any level at AGH in Krakow, who is not suspended as a student.

The software is available in the form of a setup file for different versions of the product, downloadable from the manufacturer's website.

Attention: You need to have an active account with an assigned license. Setup files can be downloaded after logging in at: www.mathworks.com.

Most common causes of being unable to download the setup files:

  • not being registered on the Mathworks website,
  • not having relevant permissions,
  • the license has not been added to the account.

Detailed information is sent to the user after submitting an access request. In case of any issues, send a message to matlab@agh.edu.pl.

Newsletter

In order to receive current news about MathWorks products owned by the AGH University and information about possible outages, you can sign up to a newsletter: matlab-l.

To sign up, open the link above and fill out the form.

Registration

The individual and classroom licenses have unique numbers, which must be entered during registration on the manufacturer's website in the "Licenses" tab. The license numbers is sent automatically after submitting an access request to the administrator.

In case of issues with registration, please register and report an issue at: Registration and technical support for MathWorks AGH.

Setup

The file must be saved on the drive (if the browser opens the file automatically after clicking the link, you need to right-click it and choose "Save link as..."). Alternatively, you can copy the text located within the file and save it as any text file on your drive and the select that file during setup.
